Lote 1099:
Oil on canvas. Canvas measurements: 100 x 80 cm. Framed measurements: 110 x 85 cmMariano Nani (Naples, c. 1725 – Madrid, 18041), prominent Italian painter active in Spain, specialized in still life painting, began working with his father in 1755 in the royal porcelain factory of Capodimonte, with the title of “painter-decorator”.2 He moved to Spain in 1759 in the entourage of Charles III. Installed in Madrid, he collaborated with his designs in the creation of the Real Fábrica de Porcelanas del Buen Retiro without abandoning the painting of still lifes and miniatures. In 1764, the year in which the Still Life with Lamb and Birds of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando is dated, he was admitted to this institution as an academic of merit. His style is characterized by marked influences of Paul de Vos and flemish painting interpreted with a dramatic sense and vibrant colors. It can be found in works such as A dog and a cat fighting for a pigeon (Palacio Real de Aranjuez) or in some of the hunts of large game pieces intended for tapestry cartoons, such as the two preserved in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in storage at the Prado Museum: Bear and Deer Hunting and Deer Hunting. Provenance: important private collection from Madrid.
