GRAND AUCTION OF OLD MASTERS, COLONIAL ART AND VINTAGE WATCHES
Lote 436:
A rare pair of bronze figural smoking companions in the manner of Pierre Xavery. Each depicts a seated tavern figure, one cleans his pipe with his finger whilst the other clutches a jug of ale. The barrels are lined in tin & each have a removable lid to store tobacco. The black marble bases are hollowed to contain oil & wicks would originally have been threaded through the lamps into the base to serve as a lighter. The black marble bases are sat upon their original ebonised wooden plinths. Condition is good aside from a missing chair leg to one of the figures & a handle to one of the oil lamps. Each measures 22 x 18 x 14cm.
