Oil on canvas with an important period frame, measurements: 223 x 158 cm, framed measurements: 249 x 183 cm. This composition reproduces the biblical passage of the Prayer in the garden Mc 14,32-42; Lk 22,39-46; cf. Jn 18,1 “Then Jesus went with them to a place called Gethsemane and said to his disciples: -Sit here while I go there to pray.” All the suffering of the crucifixion is made present to Jesus but he does not give in, he continues praying, then “An angel from heaven appeared to him to comfort him. And entering into agony he prayed with more fervor and his sweat became like drops of blood that fell on the earth” (Lk). The whole body is drenched in that strange blood sweat. The anguish of the soul becomes terror; but he does not defeat him, Jesus does not give up his effort to give himself up. He wants the will of the Father, which is his, not that of the body that resists, full of fear. Measurements: Valencian private collection, Jávea.
