Pair of oil paintings on canvas. Measures each: 138 x 94 cm, framed measures: 153 x 108 cm. The First Siege of Vienna, in 1529, marked the height of the Ottoman invasion of central Europe by Turkish troops commanded by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. The sultan wanted to try again to conquer the city in 1532, but found the defenders supported by a large army under the command of Ferdinand’s brother, Emperor Charles V, and could not approach it. There would still be a second siege. in Vienna, during the reign of Emperor Leopold I, in the year 1683. Origin: former Madrid private collection.
