Exceptional fruit wood carving, Sebastián Ducete (Toro, Zamora, 1568 – 1620) was the most prominent member of a dynasty of sculptors in the city of Toro, in Zamora. He was trained in the workshop of Juan de Montejo, a disciple of Juan de Juni. On the death of his father Juan Ducete, in 1593, he inherited his workshop, among his most outstanding works and of clearly Junian influence we can highlight the Crucified Christ of the Marés Museum (around 1600) from the Convent of the Discalced Carmelites of Toro. From 1609 he abandoned his more mannerist forms to adopt more baroque models. We highlight the Christ Tied to the Column of San Gil (Burgos) and the Immaculate of Villalar de Tordesillas, made around 1612. His last work is the San Francisco Javier of the Jesuit college of Villagarcía de Campos around 1619 for a long time attributed to Gregorio Fernández. Measurements: 59 x 26 x 22 cm
