Very good condition, small flaws on fingers, preserving a good part of its polychrome, gilding and original plating, Templum Fine Art Auctions guarantees the authenticity and dating of said work, unpublished on the art market to date, of which is attached technical expert report – comparative. Measurements: 172 x 60 x 40 cm. Provenance: important private collection from Madrid. Gil de Siloé is one of the greatest figures of Hispanic sculpture, and European by extension, of the 15th century, when the forms of late Gothic, hybridized by those of Mudejar art and flemish influences of a flamboyant type, gave rise to the Elizabethan Gothic style. , exclusive to Spain, of which Gil de Siloé is an emblematic representative. Relating to the Colonia family; whether he went by kinship, by the same nationality or by artistic affinity. The fact is that Juan and Simón de Colonia – the two great architects of the late Medieval Gothic era – and – the great image maker – Gil de Siloe lived together in permanent collaboration. The magnitude and large number of works commissioned from Siloe in a relatively short documented period of time, 1486-1501, as well as the extremely high level of quality that it maintained on most occasions, indicate the existence of a workshop that had assumed its way to do. At the end of Gil’s life, his son Juan -Diego would have been between 15 and 18 years old- would also be among his collaborators.
