A double sided horn and rock crystal pendant. This remarkable pendant with micro scenes made of fragments of painted bone depict the vision and life of Saint Francis of Assisi to one side and the Virgin bearing the Christ child, within a sunburst of bone to the other. A similar example in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago; Gift of Marilynn B. Alsdorf, Reference Number: 1992.549, catalogue entry: Double-Sided Pendant with Scenes from the Lives of Saint Francis and of Christ. Gold, enamel, antler core, glass, silk, shell, pearl, paper, and wood. Austria, c.1600–1700. Note the similar use of polychromy and the very similarly delineated bridges present in both examples. Measures: 5.8 x 4.2 x 2.3 cm.
