GRAND AUCTION OF OLD MASTERS, COLONIAL ART AND VINTAGE WATCHES
Lot 227:
Oil on canvas. Painting of a penitent Magdalene in the desert, accompanied by the book and the skull, a symbol of penitence. As is usual in her penitence scenes, she appears to us half-naked, and with her long hair covering her body. The work is part of the Neapolitan school of the 17th century, characterized by the tenebrist style, with great contrasts of light and shadow that are contrasted with a delicatesfumato, especially in the young woman’s body. Measurements without frame: 119 x 97 cm. Framed measurements: 133 x 112 cm.
